Looking for a Marg ERP alternative for your shop?
Marg ERP is a heavyweight in pharma and distribution, and in that world it is very hard to beat. RetailDek is a lighter, browser-based GST billing, POS and inventory system for general retail. Here is an honest read on which one suits your shop.
Where Marg ERP is the better choice
What Marg has in pharmaceutical distribution is not a feature set so much as accumulated domain knowledge, and that is genuinely difficult to compete with. As of mid-2026 their site describes batch-wise stock with expiry and near-expiry alerts, scheme tracking, sub-stockist and credit management, drug-licence tracking, order and production modules, stock viewable along several different axes, and a very large report library. Every one of those exists because a real chemist or distributor needed it, and a general retail product does not arrive at that list by reasoning from first principles.
Marg is the better choice for a pharmaceutical distributor, a stockist or sub-stockist, or a chemist whose day is governed by batch and expiry discipline, licence compliance and settling supplier schemes. If that describes your business, choose the specialist. Depth in a narrow vertical is exactly the thing you cannot substitute for later.
Where RetailDek takes a different approach
RetailDek is browser-based. There is no per-machine installation and no server to maintain in the shop; you sign in from a counter PC, a laptop or a tablet and see the same live data.
The feature surface is deliberately narrower and aimed at general retail: GST invoicing, inventory, POS, purchases, expenses and reports rather than a full distribution ERP.
GST invoices split CGST/SGST/IGST automatically from the place of supply, carry HSN or SAC codes per line, apply auto round-off and follow your own number series.
POS is built for the counter — barcode scan-to-bill and scan-to-receive, shelf-label printing, and shift close with cash reconciliation.
Multi-godown stock control is available on every plan, with stock reserved, deducted and replenished as part of the sale and purchase flow.
Plans include users rather than charging per seat: up to 10 during the 30-day free account, then Silver 3, Gold 6 and Diamond 10 on annual paid plans. GSTR-1 export and the stock and activity audit trail are on every plan.

Who should look at RetailDek instead
General retail rather than distribution. Kirana and supermarket, garment and footwear, hardware and electrical, mobile and electronics, stationery, gift and general stores — shops where the job is scan, bill, collect, restock. A distribution ERP can do this, but you carry a lot of module weight you never open.
Shops that do not want software to administer. Browser-based means no counter installation, no local server, no backup routine of your own and no version to update — which matters most for owners without an IT person on call.
Owners who want to see the shop from outside it. Because everything runs in a browser, the Day Book, sales reports and stock position are a login away from home or from a second location.
One honest boundary: if your business turns on batch and expiry management, drug-licence compliance or supplier scheme settlements, RetailDek is not built for that and we would point you back to a pharma-specialist product.
What migrating actually looks like
Export the two lists that matter: your item master and your party list. Bring across item name, unit, HSN or SAC code, GST rate and selling price for items, and name, GSTIN, state and contact for parties. Getting HSN and GST rate right at import is what makes every later invoice, tax summary and GSTR-1 export correct without cleanup.
Be realistic about the stock count, because that is where the actual work sits. A shop that has been running on a distribution-grade system often carries several thousand SKUs, and counting them is a physical job, not a software one. Many owners phase it — count and go live category by category over two or three weekends rather than shutting the shop for a full-inventory day. Either approach works; underestimating it is what causes migrations to stall.
Prior periods stay in the old software. You are changing how you bill, not rewriting your history, so keep the previous system available for reference and for any reporting on periods it already covers. The Diamond plan includes assisted data migration for the masters and opening-balance load.
How to choose between them
Answer one question first: is your business defined by distribution mechanics — batches, expiry, schemes, sub-stockists, licences? If yes, choose the specialist and stop reading comparisons. If no, the question becomes how much software weight you want to carry for features you will never open.
Then test on your real day. Bill twenty actual items, receive one actual purchase into stock, and close one actual shift in each tool. Speed at the counter and clarity in the Day Book are what you will live with; module counts are not.
A note on fairness: feature sets, plan limits and pricing on both sides change often. Switching from Marg ERP — FAQs
RetailDek handles GST billing, stock, purchases and POS for a retail chemist counter, but it is a general retail product — it does not offer the pharma distribution depth Marg is known for, such as scheme tracking, sub-stockist credit management or drug-licence workflows. If those drive your business, a pharma specialist is the right call.
